Welcome

This page contains my University projects.

Course: Digital Media Design - BA(hons) 2019-2022

The course explored branding, storytelling and gaming, audio and visual communications.

Using Unity, Adobe Creative Cloud, and a drawing tablet to bring my ideas to life.

Visual Communication

Exploring the principles and applications of visual communication across both digital and print platforms, I aim to create consistent, cohesive and impactful designs that resonate with diverse audiences.

Considering design principles such as colour theory, typography, and imagery,  will result in aesthetically pleasing visuals.

ENO project

This project in third year,  was to create a poster for ENOs production of Joan of Arc.

We followed a guideline of how past ENO posters look and make material ready to export for print and digital. Images above are a mockup of what they would look like in the real world.

Exporting for digital and print in different size formats for brochures, bus shelter ads  (and with backlight), Instagram post, and web adverts. I  needed to make sure I had the correct resolution, dimensions and file format.

Lemons Instagram challenge

We also had a project "How to sell a lemon" by creating a social media account with a theme of lemons and had to compete in the class who could get the most followers.

My concept was "LemonsOnDogs". This involved exploring tools within Adobe Photoshop, and exporting files for social media. I felt this would be more engaging due to dog hashtags on Instagram have high amount of followers, so it would reach many accounts. To improve I would be more consistent with posting at set times of the day.

In second year of University I made an audio track in Adobe Audition of an AI therapist that gets disturbed by a glitch.

Audition has many tools that can adjust, noise, equalization, and dynamic processing. Enabling us to enhance audio quality and achieve professional sounds.

Gaming

Games are another form of storytelling, it should draw players in and motivate them to progress. Therefore, understanding user needs and applying a unique gameplay experience tailored to the audience with engaging mechanics will increase user satisfaction.

During my studies made solo projects and created a game within a team using Unity Game Engine. To do so involved concept development, prototyping, iterative design, and asset creation.

Terrowin

This was my character design and demo for my game 'Terrowin' in my second year of university. My role was concept art, level design, coding, and animation. I drew the characters in Photoshop to be used in Unity to create my game. I went for a 2D platformer/open world inspired by Nintendo's Zelda.

The story is that you are a medieval prisoner who goes on quests sent by the king in order to grant his freedom.

There are parts that I would like to work on and continue as I really enjoyed this project, but was limited due to having to make sure other assets were working and up to standard by the deadline.

Vampire: vived

In Second year, as a class we created a 2.5D platformer. My role was to code for the health and help others with their coding.  C# script is what I'm most confident with.

So far we only got one level done with a time limit for the player to get to the coffin without being killed by ogres. Communication is key when working within a group to allow efficient workflow.

UX/UI

Learning about user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) is crucial to designing products and services. Considering usability, aesthetics, and how to drive user engagement and satisfaction is key to a successful product. This can involve ease of navigation, accessibility, visual designs etc.

Having identified my target audiences needs I take into account a user-centered design approach. This entails User research, wireframing and prototyping, iterative testing, and final implementations.

What To Watch

My app is designed to help users pick a movie to watch.

Videos

Using Adobes After Effects and Premiere pro, I explored motion graphics and video editing tools. Doing research and planning with storyboards and style boards. Practicing with 2D and 3D animations, I created a variety of media from stop motion to music videos manipulating chroma key basics. I learnt how different techniques can enhance narrative storytelling and cater to different audiences.
